Random hallway conversation

[random unknown person passes by]

“He was kinda cute. Haven’t seen him around here before.”

“Looked like a mountain man. Maybe that’s what I need: A mountain man.”

“Maybe. He could save you from bears and chop wood. Very manly.”

“Right. We could live up amongst the pine trees and clouds… with a long dirt road leading to our romantically secluded cabin… existing side-by-side with wildlife… snuggling up in front of a roaring fire in the winter… drinking hot cocoa together while the snow piles up outside… listening to–”

“Mountain music.”

“Yeah. That’s what I was afraid of. We don’t have the same musical tastes.”

“You might. You never know.”

“No, I can tell. I have experience with this sort of thing.”

“Well, does it really matter? I mean, you’ve got the chopped wood and the hot cocoa–”

“Meh. He could be from a big city, drive a fancy car and have money dripping out of his pockets. I still wouldn’t choose him. If we can’t recite the same song lyrics, he hasn’t got a chance.”

“What do lyrics have to do with anything?”

“I need to be free to listen to each one of my many favorite songs on auto-repeat at least ten times in a row… at any given moment.”

“Sounds like the mountain man could learn the lyrics pretty quickly for ya then, if that’s the case.”

“No. He must already know them or it doesn’t count. And he must also be inclined to set the auto-repeat on his entire music collection, too… and not annoy me by doing so.”

Mmm-hmm. And where do you suppose a guy like that is?”

[moment of silence]

“Well, at least Mountain Man was cute.”

“Yes. He did have that going for him. And, speaking of which… which way did he go?”

“To the cafe… most likely to feed his manly appetite and get over losing your potential affections to a bunch of song lyrics.”

Song for a mountain man.
