CRAFT: Glittering Fairy Wand from Everyday Objects

POOF! NOW SOMETHING ORDINARY… IS NOT
Looking for something less shiny? Make a more rustic wand.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
You may, of course, make your wand with anything you like. However, here’s a suggestion:

– A sturdy stick from your yard, about 18” long and 1/4″ to 1/2″ thick; alternatively, you could use a bamboo plant stake or something similar
– Kitchen foil, 20” long by 4”wide
– An assortment of large, colorful beads
– 4 lengths of gift-wrap ribbon, 24” long each
– 6 random fabric ribbon strips, any width, 24” long each

YOUR SHINY WAND IS JUST A FEW STEPS AWAY:
1/ Lay the stick along one long edge of the foil and roll the foil — only halfway — around the stick to encase it. At this point, there should be 1” of foil extending past each end of your stick. Fold that foil inward over the ends to enclose them. Be careful not to poke a hole in the foil as you do this. Then continue rolling. (This step is very easy when you think along the lines of making a burrito.)

2/ Next, string any variety of beads onto each end of each length of gift-wrap ribbon, securing each loose end with a large, thick knot so that the beads don’t slip off the ribbon.

3/ Now lay each length of gift-wrap ribbon in front of you, horizontally, together. Lay your stick down in front of you, vertically, so that the top 4 inches of it is centered and at the top of the rows of ribbon.

4/ Tightly tie each length of ribbon around the stick.

5/ Now, lay each length of fabric ribbon in front of you, horizontally, together. Again, lay your stick down in front of you, vertically, so that the top 4 inches of it is centered and at the top of the rows of fabric ribbon.

6/ Tightly tie each length of fabric ribbon around the stick.

7/ Voila! You’re done.

Time for some enchantment!
